She came from nowhere
A month ago I knew virtually nothing about Agatha Christie and now I think she has taken to haunting me. Maybe I shouldn’t have visited her grave. Now she has followed me to my local area and the market town of Kettering in Northamptonshire. Enthusiast Gale Goddard has put her collection on display in an excellent exhibition in the town’s museum. Spread over two rooms it fully captures the mistress of mystery in all of her many guises.
The exhibition
Having travelled to Wallingford just a few weeks ago and taken the time to see the exhibition there (Agatha’s hometown for 42 years) I have to say this exhibition is superior in every way. Even if you’re not a fan of her work if you have any interest in books and writing then I would suggest a visit to this exhibition. It runs from 1st October 2016 until 7th January 2017.
The woman behind the words
Gale Goddard is such an enthusiast that she is even giving a presentation at the Alfred East Gallery on Wednesday 19th October; entry fee is £4. I will be there learning a little more about the writer and the lady behind the words. She had some zest for life, did Agatha. As an author I love learning about the person who comes up with the stories; I find it helps me to accept that we all write about the things we know. For Agatha that was country homes, poisons and potions, the Middle East and the Home Counties. Her output was astonishing as is her success. In a world of ‘The Girl on The Train’ I find myself enraptured in ‘And Then There Were None.’
